“Enough!” thundered the great Shamuau “I must create order in my land!” And so he did. He took every creature, large and small, and wrapped them in a giant web. Shamuau wove his web for days upon days, until it eventually began to weave itself. Many unfit creatures suffocated under this torture. The God Shamuau, who was not without a heart, lifted these creatures up out of his web and revived them. “I shall revive you,” he said “However, I also curse thee!” On each creature Shamuau stitched the number one. “You are the lowest of my creations, and forever will you be in obscurity.” The creatures fled in fear, and were never heard from again. As the number of surviving creatures got fewer and fewer, the number each was given grew. Those strong enough to be given the number 7 or 8 made their home amongst the various shrubbery in the hills below the mountain, where they greeted many a traveler. Finally, there were but a handful of creatures left. To these Shamuau spoke, “You have proved yourself worthy, my children. I shall bestow upon you the number nine. However, I will leave you inside this web, so that you may grow and prosper with it.” His task completed, Shamuau stepped inside his own creation, so that he might guard his people forevermore. His was the number 10.
